The Barre has different faces of vastly differing character. The Northern slopes are the usual mode of ascent, with a large glacier (Glacier Blanc) and by this face there are several routes. Almost entirely snow and ice until you reach the summit ridges, these do not exceed AD+. The southern aspects are far more serious with 1500m rock routes.
